It’s a wrap! With over 2,708 votes cast, 32 finalists, and 212 nominations in the “Maintenance” and “Management” categories, we now have our two 2016 Property Hero Award winners.

We’d like to take a moment to thank our co-sponsors: Genea, The News Funnel, ITS, and Realpage for their contributions to this year’s awards.

Before we unmask our winners, it is important to note (and consider) why it is that we run these awards. In short, we want to recognize outstanding professionals in commercial real estate property management and operations.

But it means much more than that.

What does it mean to be a Property Hero?

Being a Property Hero means that you’re passionate about what you do every day. You’re always thinking ahead about how to tackle the next challenge. When people describe you, they call you out as an outstanding professional, courteous, understanding, and knowledgeable about your line of work.

A Property Hero is the lifeblood of a property.

Take a moment and recognize your heroes

So if you know one of the 2016 Property Hero Award finalists, runners-up, or winners – congratulate them. They’re doing outstanding work, and it would mean everything to be recognized for it.

The Winners are…

With all that being said, we would first like to congratulate this year’s Maintenance Hero runner-up Bob DePaiva of Colliers International, and the Management Hero runner-up Tony Maestas of NexCore Group. The work that you’ve done this year is outstanding, and while you didn’t win the ultimate title, you’re well on your way for winning it in 2017.

And now, the moment (and text) you’ve been waiting for…

The 2016 Maintenance Hero winner is Erik Aponte of Butters Construction, and the 2016 Management Hero winner is Catherine Bradshaw of Highwoods Properties (Raleigh). Congratulations to you both!

Your peers have recognized you for your amazing effort and demeanor in the workplace, and you now have the honor of being called a Property Hero champion! We’ll be contacting you personally to handle delivery of your $1,200 prize and Building Beat blog write-up.
